National Library of Medicine
The Library was formerly a joint organization with the Medical Museum. When it moved to the National Institutes of Health in the 1950's, it took much of the history of medicine material that it had previously shared with the Museum. National Archives and Records Administration
The National Archives is the official repository for United States Government records. Holdings that may be of interest include Census records, military pension and service records including Civil War veterans and the Army Surgeon General's Office records. Records for individual hospitals including the ones created during the two World Wars should be included as well.
National Personnel Records Center
The NPRC receives and stores federal military and civilian personnel records. The Civilian Personnel Records Building stores IRS records, US Postal Money Orders, Treasury Checks, as well as the records of local federal agencies within the metropolitan area, in addition to civilian personnel and medical records. The Military Personnel Records Building houses military personnel and medical records as well as the dependent medical records of former members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. On July 12, 1973, a disastrous fire on the sixth floor at 9700 Page Avenue destroyed nearly all of the records pertaining to persons discharged from the Army before 1960 and about twothirds of the records pertaining to persons discharged from the Air Force before 1964. Alternate sources are used to resolve reference problems caused by the fire.
US Army Center of Military History
In addition to being responsible for all of the Army's museums across the country, CMH also maintains some records and histories of the Surgeon General's Office.
US Army Military History Institute
The Military History Institute collects non-official records relating to the history of the Army including diaries, letters, memoirs, photographs, art work and personal records.

This Museum has taken over the role of the Army Medical Museum in preserving and exhibiting the medical history of the Army.
National Museum of American History
The Medical Sciences Division is strong in 20th century medicine. It also has a trade literature collection.
National Museum of Natural History
The Anthropology Archives has material relating to the collection of American Indian remains by the Army in the 19th century.
Library of Congress
The Library, according to the Librarian, maintains about 104 million items - many of them unique and irreplaceable - in more than 450 languages. In addition to books, the Library also contains extensive photographic, cartographic, manuscript and film collections.
Armed Forces Institute of Pathology
The MIS Library was the central clearing house for military medicine photographs and holds post-1953 photographs of medicine including photomicrographs, clinical and gross photographs.
